The Fernie Gravel Grind September 17th – 20th 2021
The Fernie Gravel Grind is an event created by Carter Nieuwesteeg. This event was unique with the focus being less on the race and more on the enjoyment of the weekend. Gravel grinding as a form of cycling has grown in popularity over the last few years and it was amazing to this event go so well in these tricky times and with the weather the athletes were dealt with.
The event stretched from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. With vendor booths, athlete checks in and more on Friday. A race on Saturday that consisted of a large and a small loop. And lastly a causal tour of town finishing with beers and burritos.
This was my first attempt at shooting a large event like this. It was a lot of fun and a new challenge for me to attempt in my photography. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I hope I have the opportunity to be a part of an event like this again in the future.
